The majority of metal produced by a steel mill or aluminum plant is formed into long continuous strips of different sizes and shapes (via rolling or extrusion). Each segment of the strip becomes a piece of bar stock after being cut at regular intervals and cooled.

6. Water quenching in controlled environments
